Guillermo del Toro

Del Toro was born and raised Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. He came from a strict Catholic household. He studied at the Instituto de Ciencias, University of Guadalajara. His first involvement in filmmaking was at the age of eight and studied special effects and make-up with SFX artist Dick Smith. Del Toro participated in the cult series La Hora Marcada with other renowned Mexican filmakers such as Emmanuel Lubezki and Alfonso Cuarón. Haven spent eight years as a special effects make-up designer, he formed his own company, Necropia. Guillermo del Toro is best known for directing the movies Blade and Hellboy which were all based on comic heros.
